How to add footers to your PDF
In this article, you'll learn how to:
- Add a footer to your PDF
- Adjust your page height so the footer appears
- Make your page page transparent so the footer appears
- Use special commands for page numbers and images
Add a footer to your PDF
PDF Potion allows you to add consistent footers that will appear on every page of your PDF. You can add footers by adding text to the 'Left Footer Content' and 'Right Footer Content' fields that come with the 'Create PDF' workflow action:
In the above example, we've added 'Cranford Tech' to the 'Right Footer Content' field. The PDF we create will now have 'Cranford Tech' in the bottom-right hand corner of each page:
You can adjust your footer in the following ways:
- Change the font color of the text in the footer by editing the 'Font Color' field
- Change the font size of the text in the footer by editing the 'Font Size' field
- Change the margin between the footer and the side of the page by editing the 'Left/Right Margin' field
Adjust your page height so the footer appears
You may find that you add some text to the Left/Right Footer Content, but don't see any text actually appear in the footer of your PDF. One reason this can occur is because the footer is being covered up by elements on your Bubble page.
For example, if you're creating an A4 PDF, we typically recommend creating groups that are 1122px high for each page.
However, if the elements on your page (or the page itself) have a background color, they will cover up the footer.
You can avoid this by making your page a smaller height and adding a page break so the next page starts on a new page of your PDF.
You could also set a Top/Bottom Margin of 50px and set a fixed height of 1022px on the group container for the page.
Make your page page transparent so the footer appears
Another solution to make sure your footer appears on the PDF is to set the background color for the groups you are using for page containers, and for the page itself, to none.
This means that even though the Bubble elements overlap with the footer, you'll still be able to see the footer.
Use special commands for page numbers and images
PDF Potion has a number of special commands for adding page numbers and logos to your PDF's footers (and headers).
Page numbers
You can add page numbers to your PDF by adding 'page-counter' to either the 'Left Footer Content' or ' Right Footer Content' field:
Your output PDF will then have page numbers:
Logos (or other images)
In order to add an image to the footer, upload your chosen image in the ''Image" field:
You will then need to set the height and width of your image using the 'Image Height (px)' and 'Image Width (px)' fields. It is highly recommended that you set these dimensions so that they have the same proportions as the original image. If you do not do this, the image may appear squashed.
In the example below, the original image had a width of 240px and a height of 80px. We've set the width and height to be 50% of the original image's width and height (120px and 40px respectively).
You can then use the special command 'my-image' in either the 'Left Footer Content' or 'Right Footer Content' field to add the image to your footer:
The output PDF:
